In the realities of the modern Ukrainian army, a commander is not just, as stated in the statutory documents, a commanding officer who manages a unit or a unit. He is, first and foremost, a leader. The one who leads. The one who is the first to go ahead always wins. A leader is a matter of intelligence, reliability, humanity, courage and discipline.
Vladyslav Tokarev is one of the youngest battalion commanders in the Ukrainian Armed Forces' logistics forces. He has been leading the Dnipro Separate Battalion since November 2022. All this time, the unit has been performing combat missions in the southern direction. It performs them effectively and skillfully.

But he is also called a leader. They say that he is the one who knows what he is doing and how he is doing it, and who is trusted by his subordinates. Vladyslav Tokarev chose the military career when he was a young man. After finishing the ninth grade, he decided to become a soldier. He entered the Luhansk Military Lyceum. After graduating in 2012, he entered the Lviv Army Academy. He continued his military studies at the Odesa Military Academy. He began his officer's service in 2016, immediately after graduation, and was assigned to the 25th separate airborne brigade. He began his service as a platoon commander. Almost immediately he was sent to the front. He fought in Avdiivka, Horlivka, Shchastia near Stanytsia Luhanska. In September 2020, the young officer was injured in one of the shelling incidents and was later discharged from the army with a disability.
In the first days of Russia's full-scale aggression, Vladyslav Tokarev immediately went to the military enlistment office. Due to his disability, he was offered the position of a signalman or an officer in a military unit. Vladislav refused such offers and insisted on being enlisted in the Armed Forces of Ukraine according to his military specialty. That's how he became a platoon commander of the Kamianske battalion of the TRO forces.
In May 2022, Vladyslav Tokarev was appointed battalion commander. His unit takes part in the fiercest battles in the area of Velyka Novosilka-Vremiyivka. Despite the enemy's fierce resistance, the battalion under the command of "Tourist", in cooperation with other units of the Ukrainian army, managed to capture part of the settlement, hold it under powerful Russian attacks and set up defenses there.
In November 2022, Vladyslav Tokarev became the commander of the Dnipro Separate Battalion of the TRO Forces. In early January 2023, the unit was sent to perform new combat missions. This time, the location is the south of Zaporizhzhia region.
Taking part in the battles, the battalion once again proves its effectiveness, high combat capability and professionalism. The unit has destroyed Russian troops, fortifications, equipment, UAVs, and captured trophies. Using creative, innovative approaches of the commander and command officers, the unit's military specialists developed and put into operation new systems to defeat the enemy - the Partizan multiple rocket launcher system and a self-propelled system based on an enemy-seized MTLB. The Dnipro-based territorial defense units were among the first to use attack UAVs. They use them successfully and effectively.
The need to survive and win the fight against the most powerful enemy has put the task of forming a new Ukrainian army, a new generation of commanders and soldiers on the agenda for the Ukrainian nation.

The manifestation of humanity, by itself, leads to weakness. Relying on trust alone leads to stupidity. Dependence on masculine strength leads to violence. Excessive discipline and severity of command lead to cruelty. When someone has all five virtues, each of which is appropriate for its purpose, then he can be a leader." It is safe to say that Vladyslav Tokarev, the commander of the Dnipro Separate Battalion of the Ukrainian Army's TRO Forces, meets the qualities described above and is one of the representatives of the new elite of the Ukrainian army, a model of a new Ukrainian military commander.
